New book chapter: Plants as Staple Food

I was honoured to be invited to contribute a chapter on plants as staple foods to the fourth volume of Bloomsbury Academic’s Cultural History of Plants, and especially thrilled that I was able to suggest several illustrations for my chapter. Images and objects provide important source material for my work in food history and it was great that our wonderful editor, Prof. Jennifer Milam, allowed me so many.

Like most academic volumes the hardback editions are expensive, but happily there will be a more reasonably priced paperback version published in May 2025.
